What to Expect at Storytime

"The single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children."                                                                                                                                                                  - U.S. Department of Education, Becoming a Nation of Readers

In storytime, we read books, sing songs, do finger plays and nursery rhymes to develop and strengthen early literacy skills while having fun!

Each week features a different storytime theme such as pets or colors.

We repeat our favorite songs and activities each week—this builds confidence and mastery.

Each storytime is approximately 20-30min.

Storytime Tips

  • Sit, sing, & listen to stories together. Get into it! The more you participate in storytime, the more your children will participate, enjoy, and learn from storytime. This will reinforce a child’s lifelong enjoyment of books.
  • It's okay to step away. We want to keep the experience positive so if your child does not want to sit still for an entire book, feel free to leave and rejoin us at any time.
  • Talk about storytime—discuss appropriate behavior (i.e. listening ears, bottoms seated, hands to ourselves) but also ask about the theme and their favorite stories from the day!

Please be respectful of others using the library and return to using your library manners at the end of storytime.
