The Newport Beach Public Library Children’s Department offers a variety of volunteer positions to provide young adults with an opportunity to learn valuable work-life skills and give back to their community. All youth volunteers must be in 7th through 12th grade and age 12 to 18 years old. Volunteer spots are limited and vary depending on library needs and availability.
We encourage volunteers to complete their own application, submit it to the library, and take the leading role in communicating with the library staff.
Volunteers must commit to 20 hours of service per year and must attend volunteer training before starting their assignment. All volunteers ages 14 and up are required to complete a background check. Submitting an application does not guarantee placement into the program.
To apply for Teen Volunteer opportunities, fill out the application, sign it and send it via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. or drop off the application at the Library. All applications submitted February 1 to May 1, will be reviewed after the May 1st Youth Volunteer Information Session (see below).
*If you are interested in volunteering at Newport Beach Public Library, please join us as at the Youth Volunteer Information Session on May 1, 2019 at 7pm in the Central Library’s Friends Room or or May 4, 2019 at 3pm at the Mariners Branch. While attendance is not required, it is highly recommended as we will review the youth volunteer application process and discuss volunteer requirements and guidelines. Teens will also receive volunteer forms and get a first look at volunteer schedules for the Summer and Fall sessions. Parents and interested teens ages 12-18 (7th-12th grade) are encouraged to attend.
Do you enjoy reading and writing? Become one of the library’s teen book reviewers and help other teens find out about books you love. You can be a volunteer at home!
