Kids from babies to those entering 6th grade can participate in the Children’s Summer Reading Program June 7 to August 2.
LEVEL UP AT YOUR LIBRARY!
Join us for a summer of FREE family activities, entertaining performances, and a fun reading challenge at the Newport Beach Public Library! From wild animal shows to interactive programs, family games, crafts, prizes and more, the library is not just a space for knowledge, it's a space for fun, too!
Register
On June 7, join the Level Up at Your Library challenge on Beanstack or pick up a paper game sheet from any Newport Beach Public Library location. Log the minutes you read, complete bonus activities, and write book reviews to earn prizes. Don’t forget to pick up your FREE BOOK once you register (while supplies last)!
Earn Prizes
Earn a prize for every 100 minutes read (up to 600 minutes). Read all 600 minutes and be entered into the grand prize drawing for a $75 gift card to Fashion Island.
Write Book Reviews
In addition to reading, participants can write book reviews to earn entries in weekly prize drawings for a chance to win a $15 gift card. Gift card options vary and are subject to change. Submit book reviews in person or on Beanstack. The more reviews you write, the more chances you have to win!

SRP OPENING DAY | SATURDAY, JUNE 7 | ALL LOCATIONS
Start your summer of fun at any Newport Beach Public Library location with a day of activities and crafts to kick off our annual Summer Reading Program! From bubbles and sidewalk chalk to I Spy scavenger hunts and family games, Opening Day is not to be missed. Activities vary by branch. See what your favorite branch has planned! Be sure to sign up on Beanstack or in person on June 7 for an entry into the Opening Day Prize Drawing. No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Materials available while supplies last. Ages 0-12.
Books & Badges
Saturday, 6/7, 10:30am, Central Library
Join us for a special Books & Badges Storytime as we kick off our summer reading adventure! This exciting event features officers from the Newport Beach Police Department who will share engaging read-alouds, answer questions, and give kids a behind-the-scenes look at what it means to serve and protect our community. Don’t miss this action-packed storytime special! No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Materials available while supplies last. Ages 3-7.
Megan the Bubbleologist
Saturday, 6/7, 11am, Mariners Branch
Bubbles! Bubbles! And more Bubbles! Help us kick off Summer Reading with Megan the Bubbleologist’s bubble-tastic show at the Mariners branch! Set to kid-friendly music, this one-of-a-kind bubble-show includes amazing tricks and bubbles of all shapes and sizes. No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Materials available while supplies last. Space is limited to room capacity. Ages 6 -11.
WEEK 1 | BUILD YOUR OWN PUZZLES!
Sunday, 6/8 – Saturday, 6/14, All locations
Show off your creativity by making your own DIY puzzle! Visit any branch from June 8 through June 14 to design, customize, and solve your one-of-a-kind puzzle with friends and family. No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Materials available while supplies last. Ages 3-11.
WEEK 2 | WILD WONDERS - WALK ON THE WILD SIDE
Animals and science come ALIVE in your library with animal ambassadors found all over the world! Meet kinkajous, porcupines, alligators and more while learning their important role in nature. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to room capacity. Ages 6-11.

Middle Grade Book Club

Get ready for a summer full of stories in our Middle Grade Book Club! Meet to discuss Odder by Katherine Applegate followed by sea otter origami and trivia. Limited copies of each book are available for checkout at the Central Library. Registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 8-11.

Are you looking for a challenge or just some fun? Join us for an afternoon of fun and friendly competition! Kids of all ages can test their abilities with classic games, puzzles, and strategy challenges. Come play, learn, and celebrate the joy of games with us. No registration required. Embark on a fun-filled Mario-themed I Spy adventure! Visit any library branch from June 29-July 5 to search for hidden power-ups from the Mushroom Kingdom using the hints provided and receive a prize! No registration required. WEEK 5 | MICHAEL RAYNER - THE FOUND OBJECTS JUGGLING SHOW
Michael’s show has been described as “preposterous brilliance” and “wacky jugglement,” a combination of hilarious tricks and stunts with uproarious stand-up. His signature trick is spinning a Burger King cheeseburger. No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to room capacity. Ages 6-11.

WEEK 6 | VIDEO GAME CRAFTS

Don’t miss our final summer event, an exciting hour of family BINGO! Play a few friendly rounds of BINGO together with the opportunity to win some fun prizes. BINGO is a great way for families to meet new friends and spend quality time together. Whether you’re a seasoned player or brand new to the game, everyone has a chance to shout BINGO! SRP ACHIEVEMENT CELEBRATION WITH KIDS IMAGINE NATION
Sat, 8/02, 2pm, Central Library
Join us as we recognize the achievements of our summer reading program participants with special prizes for those who completed the challenge and an exciting Summer of Fun concert with Kids Imagine Nation! Rachel, Aaron & Beatz the Robot decide to make this the best summer ever, and create their own, BRAND-NEW dinosaur. For them to do it though, they need to travel back in time to the time of the dinosaurs! No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to room capacity. Ages 6-11.
