In-person test proctoring of online and written tests is offered at the Corona del Mar Branch Library by appointment only.
We offer appointments Monday-Saturday. We are closed on Sundays.
The Test Proctor fee is $24.00 per test (cash, charge, or check payable to Newport Beach Public Library) and is due at the time of the test. Please note that the test proctoring fee will increase to $36 per test starting July 1, 2025.
What We Do
- Review test instructions.
- Prepare test materials.
- Provide a desk in the adult public study area.
- Verify test taker’s identity with a valid photo ID.
- Collect electronic devices, if needed.
- Monitor students from a distance.
- Monitor the exam time.
- Collect all test materials and return them on the test date to the school/organization per their instructions. The Library accommodates tests returned by email or USPS mail only.
Information
- Library staff proctor the test. No single staff member is assigned to proctor the exam.
- Library staff cannot guarantee constant supervision.
- There may be ambient noise as the Library is one large room with a children’s area. Test takers are welcome to bring non-electronic earplugs.
- Tests cannot exceed 4 hours or Library hours of operation.
- The student must arrange for all test materials to be sent to the Library and should email testproctoring@newportbeachca.gov to confirm that the Library has received the materials prior to the test.
- It is up to the test taker to know what is allowed on the test such as notes, books, and calculators. The test taker is responsible for bringing those items.
- Test takers using their own device should make sure that they can connect to the Library’s Wi-Fi and have the software needed for their test.
- Test takers using a Library laptop should be able to access test websites. Additional software or programs cannot be downloaded on Library laptops. There are no desktop computers available.
- We recommend that test takers make sure they can access their online platform and test prior to the test appointment.
- The Library is not responsible for unforeseen events such as: network or equipment failure, lost or delayed mail, or emergency Library closure.
- For tests returned by mail, the test taker must bring a stamped, pre-addressed envelope. Please contact your school, institution, organization, or USPS to figure out correct postage.
- If the test taker is late, we may not be able to administer the test. It is up to the test taker to cancel or reschedule the appointment.
To schedule a proctoring appointment, please complete the Test Proctoring Request form a minimum of ten days prior to your first requested test date. Additional appointments for the same school/organization can be requested a minimum of five days prior to your requested test date.
