Test Proctoring

In-person test proctoring of online and written tests is offered at the Corona del Mar Branch Library by appointment only.

We offer appointments Monday-Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursday-Saturday 12 to 5 p.m. We are closed on Sundays.

The Test Proctor fee is $24.00 per test (cash, charge, or check payable to Newport Beach Public Library) and is due at the time of the test.

What We Do

  • Review test instructions.
  • Prepare test materials.
  • Provide a desk in the adult public study area.
  • Verify test taker’s identity with a valid photo ID.
  • Collect electronic devices, if needed.
  • Monitor students from a distance.
  • Monitor the exam time.
  • Collect all test materials and return them on the test date to the school/organization per their instructions. The Library accommodates tests returned by email or USPS mail only.

  • Library staff proctor the test. No single staff member is assigned to proctor the exam.
  • Library staff cannot guarantee constant supervision.
  • There may be ambient noise as the Library is one large room with a children’s area. Test takers are welcome to bring non-electronic earplugs.
  • Tests cannot exceed 4 hours or Library hours of operation.
  • The student must arrange for all test materials to be sent to the Library and should email to confirm that the Library has received the materials prior to the test.
  • It is up to the test taker to know what is allowed on the test such as notes, books, and calculators. The test taker is responsible for bringing those items.
  • Test takers using their own device should make sure that they can connect to the Library’s Wi-Fi and have the software needed for their test.
  • Test takers using a Library laptop should be able to access test websites. Additional software or programs cannot be downloaded on Library laptops. There are no desktop computers available.
  • We recommend that test takers make sure they can access their online platform and test prior to the test appointment.
  • The Library is not responsible for unforeseen events such as: network or equipment failure, lost or delayed mail, or emergency Library closure.
  • For tests returned by mail, the test taker must bring a stamped, pre-addressed envelope. Please contact your school, institution, organization, or USPS to figure out correct postage.
  • If the test taker is late, we may not be able to administer the test. It is up to the test taker to cancel or reschedule the appointment.

To schedule a proctoring appointment, please complete the Test Proctoring Request form ten days prior to your first requested test date. Additional appointments for the same school/organization can be requested five days prior to your requested test date.
