Children's Summer Reading Program

Kids from babies to those entering 6th grade can participate in the Children’s Summer Reading Program June 8 to July 27.

On June 8, join the Summer Reading Program: Read, Renew, Repeat! challenge on Beanstack or pick up a paper game sheet from any Newport Beach Public Library location. Log the minutes you read, complete bonus activities, and write book reviews to earn prizes. Don’t forget to pick up your FREE BOOK once you register (while supplies last)!

Earn Prizes

Earn a prize for every 100 minutes read (up to 600 minutes). Read all 600 minutes and be entered into the grand prize drawing for a $50 gift card to Fashion Island.

Write Book Reviews

In addition to reading, participants can write book reviews to earn entries in weekly prize drawings for a chance to win a $10 gift card. Gift card options include CdM Gelato, Jan’s, Golden Spoon, See’s, Jack’s Surfboards, Ruby’s, Salt & Straw, Susie Cakes, Sprinkles, Barnes & Noble, and Target. Submit book reviews in person or on Beanstack. The more reviews you write, the more chances you have to win!

SRP OPENING DAY | SATURDAY, JUNE 8 

Start your summer of fun at any Newport Beach Public Library location with a day of activities and crafts to kick off the start of our annual Summer Reading Program. Sign up on June 8 to be entered into the Opening Day Prize Drawing.

WEEK 1 | HIGH-ENERGY DANCE WITH POWERHOUSE

Join us for an electrifying dance experience with POWERHOUSE!!! Percussive Dance. POWERHOUSE!!!, a group of nationally recognized percussive dancers, combines innovative tap, precision clogging, Irish step and explosive stomp to create an interactive, unique and mesmerizing dance program.

WILD ABOUT ANIMALS WITH DOODLEBUGS
Meet LIVE animals from around the world with Doodlebugs Animal Adventures! Learn some fun facts and see some amazing creatures in this interactive and educational program.

WEEK 2 | DESERT HABITAT CRAFTS
Desert crafts will be in bloom the week of June 16 at your favorite branch library. From critters to cacti, sand to sunshine, come and create your very own desert-themed crafts.

WEEK 3 | PUPPET SHOW: DIG DUG AND THE DINO-MITES

Meet Dig Dug and his Dino-friends as they go on a fun dinosaur adventure after awaking from a 65-million-year nap! Enjoy this interactive and engaging puppet show all about dinosaurs.

WEEK 4 | UNDER THE SEA CRAFTS
Dive into your creativity with crafts inspired by deep-sea creatures and the majestic depths of the ocean.

WEEK 5 | CHEMISTRY FUN: LET’S GET CRAZY ABOUT CHEMISTRY!
Explore the gooey, slippery, slimy world of chemistry with a zany professor of fun! Kids will be guided through experiments that change everyday household items using the principles of chemistry.

WEEK 6 | FOREST ANIMAL CRAFTS

WEEK 7 | FAMILY FRIENDLY MUSIC
Experience exciting displays of tricks and illusions with the Magic of Tony Daniels. Tony Daniels will marvel with his display of magic and comedy during this fun-filled special event.

The Summer Reading Program is generously funded by the Friends of the Library and the Newport Beach Public Library Foundation.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events.
Space is first come, first seated, and limited by room capacity.
Materials available while supplies last.
