Kareem Abdul-Jabbar at the Library

Kareem Abdul JabbarKareem Abdul-Jabbar is a global icon that changed the game of professional basketball. Since his stellar professional career, he has gone on to become a celebrated New York Times-bestselling author, filmmaker, ambassador of education, and Time Magazine columnist.  Meet the legend and hear him recount his exciting evolution from street ball player to successful athlete, author, producer, and community activist.

Mycroft and SherlockAuthor of 15 books, NBA All-Star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be introducing his newest novel, Mycroft and Sherlock, the Empty Birdcage, which will be released in late September by Titan books. The novel is the third in his engaging series of historical mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes’ older brother Mycroft. An early review by Publisher’s Weekly touts the novel as Abdul-Jabbar and Anna Waterhouse’s “best yet” and predicts that “Sherlockians will be enthralled.”

EVENT SOLD OUT - Reservations for this event are at the maximum room capacity.  You are welcome to come stand in line to see if there is space due to "no-shows," however we cannot guarantee admission. The program will be filmed and made available through the City's local cable station NBTV and streaming video on the City website a week or two following the program.

Program is funded by the Friends of the Library. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Please come early; reserved seats will be released to waiting attendees if unclaimed by 6:45 p.m. Books will be available for purchase and signing.  Signing will only be for hardback books written by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and purchased at the event.
