About Project Adult Literacy

Mission

The Mission of Project Adult Literacy is to develop the literacy skills of adults to empower them to achieve greater success in their lives - at home, at work and in the community.

Since its inception in 1986, Project Adult Literacy has offered free, one-on-one tutoring and small group classes in basic literacy, to adults who live or work in the Newport Beach area.  The program is open to adults, over 18 years-of-age, who are either native English speakers with low literacy skills or those who learned English as a second language.

Volunteers

Project Adult Literacy employs two part time staff.  The majority of support and tutoring is done by a dedicated volunteer base.  Find out how to become a volunteer.

Support

The program is sponsored, in part, by the State of California and the City of Newport Beach.  However, most of our funding comes individual support and from local businesses that are committed to making a difference.  How you can help support Literacy Services.
