"Newport Beach: Glimpses of the Past" Sherman Library Lecture

Newport Beach: Glimpses of the Past, the current exhibit at the Central Library, highlights the history of Newport Beach.  The photographs in the exhibit are but a small sample from Sherman Library’s extensive historic photograph collection. Paul Wormser, Director of Sherman Library, will give a presentation about the Library’s photograph collection, including those on display and many others.

Beginning with the opening of the Pavilion and arrival of the Red Car in 1906, visitors from Los Angeles and Pasadena flocked to Newport to get out of the heat.  Newport Beach was a recreational haven for visitors wanting to surf, fish, sail or swim.  Many of these visitors never left and the landscape quickly changed to accommodate new residents and grew into what is now Newport Beach.  Sherman Library's extensive photograph collection includes unique images of the city's history.

Admission is free, seating limited.
