Jason Voorhees. Michael Myers. Many are familiar with these characters and their actions.

However, when viewing these characters through a lens, it is important to understand the

motives behind their horrific actions. To be frank, these legends were territorial. In the novel

Creep, by Eireann Corrigan, a character named the “Sentry” is feared by people in town as he

haunts the Donahue house which he claims belongs to him. This creates a sense of fear and

mystery in the community as to who this character could be and the residents of the Donahue

house are fearful for their lives as the Sentry has proven to be violent. Who is this mystery man

that everyone fears and what will the people do to stay alive?

I chose to read this book because I realized how long it had been since I read a book that

revolved around mystery and horror, and Creep really stood out to me when I was browsing.

Furthermore, school is coming to an end and so is my workload so I was also looking for a quick

and interesting read. I am very glad that I came across this novel. It is extremely easy to read, is

constantly kept fresh, and is not long in length at all. The characters are engrossing and the plot

is extremely captivating.

My favorite character in this book was the protagonist Olivia. Olivia is extremely kind, accepting,

and curious. She is very smart and loving which makes her an amazing friend. As a genuine

person, she cares for the Donahue family and tries to help them in their predicament. She is

especially accepting towards all the new kids because she can relate to them. Furthermore, she

is honest and is not afraid to correct one of her friends or family members when she sees that

they are in the wrong, always keeping those close to her accountable.

My least favorite character in this book was the antagonist, the Sentry. The reasons being are

because he is a mysterious narcissist who won’t leave the Donahues alone, and causes

unnecessary harm and stress to the entire community. He tries to claim a house that he believes belongs to his family when that truly isn’t the case. I also believe that if he really wanted to fight

for what he believed belongs to him and his lineage, he wouldn’t be doing so in the shadows and behind a mask. He invades the privacy of the Donahues and causes unnecessary terror that can

easily be avoided professionally. Hence, the Sentry is my least favorite character in the entire novel.

In conclusion, Creep is a book that I would highly recommend to any teens interested in a book

with a blend of mystery, thrill, and horror. It is easy to read, short, and filled with an unique plot

and set of characters. I would rate this novel a ⅘ stars. As summer is quickly approaching and school is coming to an end, get your hands on this read!
