Used book donations are always needed. The proceeds from the Friends of the Library Bookstore and Used Book Sales go directly to the Newport Beach Public Library to help fund children's and adult programs, collection additions, and special purchases. We greatly appreciate your donations. Here are answers to some frequently asked questions.
What materials can I donate?
Books, textbooks (last five years), compact discs, DVDs, sheet music, records and audio books can be donated. All must be clean and in good condition.
What items are not accepted?
Old textbooks and computer books, magazines, medical text (except Gray’s Anatomy), law text (except Black’s Law), encyclopedias, VHS, and cassette tapes. Books that have been damaged, bug infested, moldy, missing parts or pages are NOT SALEABLE.
Where can donations be left?
Please drop off donations at the Friends Bookstore in the Central Library or any of the Branch libraries in Newport Beach during library hours. Large donations should be brought to the Central Library since storage is limited at the Branches. A dolly is available in the Bookstore to transport boxes of books from your car. there is no home pickup service provided.
Where do donations go?
In most cases, the donations are given to the Friends of the Library, priced and sold. Proceeds enable the Friends to support Library projects, programs and activities not covered by the Library’s operating budget. Many book donations are added to the Library collection, especially if they are books of special or local interest.
Are gifts tax deductible?
Yes. the Friends of the Newport Beach Library is a nonprofit 501C(3) organization and your donation is tax deductible as a charitable contribution to the extent allowed by law. A receipt is available upon request. The Friends cannot establish or affirm the value of your donation.
