The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is a book about a Hollywood movie star, Evelyn
Hugo, and the secrets of her reclusive life. This novel was captivating, insightful, compelling,
and enchanting. This book takes you back to the golden age of Hollywood, in Evelyn Hugos
prime. This is an immersive story where each moment felt so real you forgot you were reading
fiction. It was as if Evelyn was a real actress and this book was simply her story. This novel
takes you through her whole lifes story which gets uncovered through an interview by Monique.
Evelyn is a big star, now old and ready to tell her story. She has her pick of the most
experienced and talented interviewers in the world, but seeks out a relatively inexperienced girl
and demands to work with her. Why? This is one of the many questions you will be asking
yourself throughout this read. This book reveals all the details about Evelyn and her marriages
that everyone wanted to know. As we learn more and more about Evelyn's life, the more
captivated we become as the reader. We get taken through each of Evevlyns seven husbands,
and how everyone affected her character. Each of her marriages imprinted on her and changed
her, and we are left wondering who was the love of her life? Don’t be fooled, this is not a book
about the trials and misfortunes of her marriages, but rather how the men correlated with who
she was at the time and how they impacted her long term. We get to know about the truth
behind her scandals, her motives, aspirations, etc. She's a character you learn to love, while
she makes some questionable choices, it’s clear she's a fierce woman who refuses to be played
by the people in Hollywood. Evelyn is extremely alluring. Her independence, cunning
intelligence, and her imperfections makes you forget frequently that you're not reading about a
real person. This character was so complex and beautifully written which made this such an
interesting read. I feel like it's a very unique quality to give such depth to a character like this. A
story about a Hollywood actress and her struggles and scandals, you may think this book would
be predictable, but everything you think or assume would be wrong because of the complexity
to each moment, thought, and overall character in this novel. It was very easy to get consumed
by this story and be hooked, it is definitely a book that is hard to put down and will most likely be
a quick read. This exhibits unfiltered moments of sacrifices and heartbreaks while touching on
the unpredictable, irrational tendencies of love. There were no moments in this book that were
boring or dragged along. This is an exceptional book, one that I wish I could read for the first
time again. I highly recommend this book to anyone, even if you don't typically gravitate towards
historical fiction, I guarantee this book will surprise you. I personally like thrillers and don’t
necessarily just like reading fiction stories because I find I get bored really easily, but this book
was anything but boring.
