The Girl In The Mirror is a twisted and sinister thriller. This book is about two twin
sisters Iris and Summer who may appear to be identical on the outside, but on the inside they are
completely different. (literally and physically) This is a thriller that exhibits the good twin/ bad
twin trope and Iris is the ‘bad twin’. ‘Bad twin’ in the sense that she has an imperfect life in most
ways. To distinguish the two Iris even suffers from situs invertus which means her organs mirror
the normal way organs should be. Iris has been in her sister Summers' shadow her whole life,
secretly consumed by envy, watching as Summer lives a perfect life getting everything she's ever
wanted and everything Iris has ever wanted. Summer getting everything Iris has ever wanted
includes Iris’ dream sailboat even though Summer doesn’t sail. She also has the perfect husband
who is kind and handsome, a pleasant stepson, and is extremely wealthy. A crisis in Summers'
life occurs when her stepson needs an urgent surgery, so her husband takes care of him and
brings him to a hospital. Since Summer doesn't know how to sail she asks her sister for help to
sail their boat from Thailand to Seychelles. This sail ride with her sister was not fun family time,
far from it. A terrible disaster occurs on the trip. This disaster leads to internal and external
conflict with many twists and turns. The plot continues adding more components of envy,
insecurities, and eventually a competition for inheritance. I can’t tell more about the plot without
giving away too much, but this book will be sure to have the reader thinking and questioning the
characters motives and thoughts. I personally think this book exhibits a lot of classic and
predictable elements of a thriller/psychological thriller. The jealous twin/ evil twin trope has been
done before in more ways than one, and a lot of the twists can be easily seen by a seasoned
reader of this genre. The beginning of this book was a little boring, just giving backstory in a
somewhat disintersing way. It also spent a lot of time intricately explaining details of sailing
which was both unnecessary and boring. I could see how some readers might give up on
reading this because of how boring the beginning of the book may seem, there's nothing
keeping the reader intrigued in the plot for the first third to half of the book. The plot twist at the
very ending I found a little overdone just because I could see it coming, but that's only because
psychological thriller is my favorite genre to read so I have read many books like this. Most of
this book was very far-fetched and unrealistic, which made it hard to completely engage in the
plot of the novel. With that, I do think that this book is great for readers new to this genre and
looking for a quick fun read, or if you don’t mind predictable twists. It is a relatively good book
which I do recommend, but if you are looking for an especially unique psychological thriller this isn’t the one for you.

Nonetheless I enjoyed reading this and would give it a 3.2/5 overall.
