Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is an eye-opening and enchanting book about a teenage girl named Madeline (Maddy) who is quickly won over by her new nextdoor neighbor, Olly. The only problem is that Maddy has a rare disease called Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disease, or as Maddy likes to call it, “SCID”. This disease prevents her from going outside and from making any real human connections, with the exceptions of her mother and her nurse. She must live in a house with air filters and must take crazy precautions when someone from the outside world needs to come inside.

As the book progresses, she and Olly really develop a strong connection with each other, mostly through the internet. However, this connection starts to get arguably too strong, and rules are broken and actions are taken that could change Maddy’s and Olly’s life forever. This love story broke many boundaries and was so entertaining the entire time. Throughout the book, I came to love the way Yoon depicted everything, and it was such a new experience getting to see the world through Maddy’s eyes. It made me appreciate what I have more and made me see the world in a new light. I realized that some things come easier to me than they do to others, and sometimes I even take the air I breathe for granted. It was so descriptive and I felt like I was right there with Maddy throughout the entire book. I felt like I was experiencing seeing things for the first time again, and it was such a refreshing perspective. I know I asked myself, “Really? Another romance book about another disease?” because there are several in this category. However, I can assure you that this one breaks the stereotype of a book about sick people, and there are several unexpected surprises throughout the book that kept me on my toes and also will keep you on your toes as well.

The ending was my favorite part, and I was left speechless after finishing this book because of the ending. However, I do not want to spoil the book, so just keep reading until the end because it only gets better! I do not know if there was really anything about this book that I did not like, but there were definitely some frustrating parts where I wanted to just jump into the book and pick a fight with a few of the characters! I highly recommend this book for readers who enjoy romance novels and who are also fans of beautifully written books. I also recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a mostly refreshing and optimistic take on the world, especially when the world can sometimes be viewed as something negative and dirty. This book is a great read for those who like strong leading female characters and for those who like a kindhearted and sweet male character, too! Overall, It was a very refreshing and enamoring book that I would recommend to anyone, especially those who like reading books by Nicola Yoon and who also like romance novels and amazing endings!
