Estoy revisando The Scorch Trials de James Dashner. Es el segundo libro de la serie Maze Runner, después de The Maze Runner. 
Después de lo que sucedió en El corredor del laberinto, Thomas y sus amigos se despiertan y descubren que suceden cosas extrañas, como cadáveres colgando del techo, apariciones de locos o Cranks, y paredes de ladrillo en las ventanas. Luego comienza el siguiente paso de la prueba: a los niños, con un niño nuevo que reemplaza a Teresa y llamado Aris, se les dice que tienen una enfermedad horrible llamada Flare, y para obtener la cura, tienen que ir a un desierto llamado Scorch ( como el título). Sin embargo, el desierto no es normal. Con Cranks locos, un clima extraño, un nuevo grupo y un drama amoroso entre Thomas y una chica Crank, Brenda, Thomas y sus amigos se ven empujados al límite de la supervivencia, mientras mantienen amistades y se enfrentan a las traiciones. 
 
Este libro fue una buena adición al primero, y me gustó mucho, a pesar de que había muchas descripciones sangrientas de personas, peleas y criaturas. Las personalidades de los personajes se mejoraron y se hicieron más detalladas, especialmente las de los amigos de Thomas. Las descripciones de los Cranks y su locura eran muy realistas, y el romance era algo más importante en este libro, pero solo un poco. Algunas partes del libro eran algo vergonzosas, como cuando Thomas tuvo que ir a un espacio estrecho con Brenda. 
 
Thomas parecía un poco trastornado para este libro, pero es comprensible, considerando que no sabía dónde estaba Teresa (su amiga e interés amoroso), y seguían sucediendo cosas extrañas, como los Cranks y las locas tormentas eléctricas. Minho también era muy indiferente y violento, pero tenía una vibra de "amor duro". Eso podría haber sido causado por los incidentes traumáticos que ocurrieron en el laberinto y a lo largo de este libro. Teresa, sin embargo, no era nada agradable. Tuvo que actuar mal con Thomas y traicionarlo, pero después de eso, ¡solo esperaba que lo perdonara! Me gustó cómo actuó Thomas en ese momento, y cómo trató de defenderse al principio, pero luego se mantuvo frío con Teresa. 
 
También durante los capítulos, muestra cuánto se preocupan las personas a cargo, como cuando sacan a Thomas debido a una "variable" no intencional, o un evento que pone a prueba las respuestas de los Habitantes. Esto muestra que realmente quieren terminar el experimento, no matarlos a todos, como se podría pensar en el primer libro. Pero mi parte favorita fue cuando Thomas y sus amigos lucharon contra extrañas criaturas, porque hubo mucha acción y demostró que los adolescentes no estaban completamente indefensos. También hizo que las personas a cargo, o los Creadores, parecieran tener el control total de todo, a pesar de que Scorch era muy grande y los personajes podían ir a cualquier parte, incluidos los túneles subterráneos y las ciudades vacías. 
 
En conclusión, este libro fue muy divertido y entretenido. Recomendaría el libro a los adolescentes que estén de acuerdo con la sangre y las descripciones gráficas. El tercer y último libro de la trilogía es The Death Cure.

I’m reviewing The Scorch Trials by James Dashner. It’s the second book in the Maze Runner series, after The Maze Runner. 
After what happened in The Maze Runner, Thomas and his friends wake up to find strange things happening, like dead bodies hanging from the ceiling, appearances of crazy people, or Cranks, and brick walls in the windows. Then the next step of the trial begins: The boys, with a new kid replacing Teresa and named Aris, are told they have a horrible disease called the Flare, and to get the cure, they have to go to a desert called the Scorch (like the title). The desert isn’t normal, though. With crazy Cranks, weird weather, a new group and love drama between Thomas and a Crank girl, Brenda, Thomas and his friends are pushed to the limit of survival, while keeping friendships and dealing with betrayals. 
 
This book was a nice addition to the first, and I liked it a lot, even though there were lots of bloody descriptions of people, fights, and creatures. The characters’ personalities were improved and more detailed, especially Thomas’ friends. The descriptions of the Cranks and their insanity was very realistic, and romance was a bigger thing in this book, but only slightly. Some parts of the book were kind of cringey, like when Thomas had to go in a cramped space with Brenda. 
 
Thomas seemed a little unhinged for this book, but it’s understandable, considering he didn’t know where Teresa (his friend and love interest) was, and weird things kept happening, like the Cranks and crazy lightning storms. Minho also was very uncaring and violent, but he had a “tough love” vibe. That might have been caused by the traumatic incidents that happened in the maze and throughout this book. Teresa, however, was not likeable at all. She had to act mean to Thomas and betray him, but after that she just expected her to forgive him! I liked how Thomas acted in that moment, and how he tried to fight back at first, but then stayed cold to Teresa. 
 
Also during the chapters, it shows how much the people in charge care, like when they take Thomas out because of an unintended “variable”, or event that tests the Gladers’ responses. This shows that they actually want to finish the experiment, not kill them all, like one might think in the first book. But my favorite part was when Thomas and his friends fought strange creatures, because there was plenty of action and it showed that the teens weren’t entirely helpless. It also made the people in charge, or the Creators, seem like they had full control of everything, even though the Scorch was very big and the characters could go anywhere, including the underground tunnels and empty towns. 
 
In conclusion, this book was very fun and entertaining. I would recommend the book to teens who are okay with blood and graphic descriptions. The third and finalbook in the trilogy is The Death Cure.
