Feed is a young adult dystopian novel in the cyberpunk genre and is written by M.T Anderson. The novel’s setting is in the distant future where people use this device called the “Feed”. The Feed is almost like a microchip that you insert in something to say track it, but instead, this chip goes in your brain. It is pretty much having a computer in your head in which you can be connected to the internet conveniently, you just think have to think about it! This results in the entire population having very limited abilities and thinking skills as they always rely on the feed to solve their problems. This novel was eye-opening and very impactful as it shows the dangers of the future that we should avoid. Technology is made to make lives easier and the more advanced technology, the more convenience, which leads to more “dumbness”. I could keep talking about this but instead, let's move on to the actual review. First of all, it was a bit difficult to find my stride in the book as Anderson used futuristic terms/slang that took some time to get used to. I feel like there should have been a more detailed introduction to the setting as it felt like I was just placed in the world without too much context so that's why it was a bit hard to understand and read at first. If you enjoy just being dropped into an environment as Anderson does then it is a great book for you. If you are like me and you like futuristic novels then this is also a great book to read as you are immersed in the technological advancements that the fictional world has made and it makes you wonder if this is how the future would be. I certainly changed my perspective on the future and its advanced technology which made me rethink our own world and what direction we are leading in. Anyways I would recommend this book to any high school student or maybe even mature middle schoolers as it is a fun book to read and is an eye-opener. There are a lot of curse words in the book so I would recommend it slightly more towards mature audiences such as young adults.  One of my favorite quotes from this book is “it's like a squid in love with the sky.” I really love these types of quotes that make you think about it to find the real message behind it. What it is saying is that it is impossible for a squid to like the sky as he has never experienced it due to its natural habitat in water, but it still has hopes and dreams. So overall, I really enjoyed this book though it was hard for me to understand at first, once you delve deeper into the story you will love it so I would highly recommend this book to anyone.
