 The Huntress Book Cover

There is a complex web of unknowing interaction within the novel. The overlap of events brings the mysterious gloom within The Huntress and intrigues readers to wanting to read more. One thing to keep in mind while reading the story is the historical accuracy. World War II has specific historical facts that are followed to the core of the novel. Every event is connected in one way or another.  Following three main characters, the author, Kate Quinn, allows the reader to see the various clues that lead to the conclusion.

The story’s setting is set a few years after World War II. This creates hostility against people of German origin. Countries from all over the world are on a manhunt for past Nazi members. In particular, they are looking for the Huntress. She is rumored to be the ruthless bride of one of the Nazi generals. Responsible for numerous bloody deaths, the Huntress has been responsible for the past despair of some of the characters.

The first character that is introduced is Jordan McBride. She yearns to be a professional photographer at a time when women were not encouraged to pursue jobs. When her father meets a mysterious woman with a young daughter. The mysterious woman's name is Annelisse. At first Jordan is skeptical of her, but she warms up to her. There are clues that are dropped that indicate that Annelisse was involved with the Nazis.

The second character is Tony and Ian. They are the Nazi hunters that are invested in looking for the Huntress. Traveling all over the world, trying to sniff out the small hints. But to their despair, all they are able to find out is that the Huntress immigrated to the United States. Ian drops the bombshell that he has a secret wife named Nina. Nina comes from an isolated town near Russia, where she was taught the ways of killing. She was involved in the war and had a near death experience with the Huntress. All three of them are driven to capture her and travel to the city that the Huntress is rumored to be.

All these characters meet up in Boston. Troy and Ian need an undercover story to acquaint themselves with the townspeople. It comes to their luck that the McBride store is hiring. This comes in the light of events that Jordan’s father had passed away due to unknown circumstances. By this point Annelise and Jordan are the closest they had ever been. Ian and Troy try their best to keep their story undercover, however Jordan’s quick eye catches on. This brings back her suspicions from the first moments she saw Annelise. All five of them group their knowledge and are able to pin down who the Huntress is.

Annelise is the Huntress who escaped in midst of the chaos by kidnapping an unknowing young girl who posed as her daughter. This mirage of helplessness allowed her to become an integrated part of American society. Once the secret is let loose, Annelise disappears with her daughter. This forces the protagonists to go on a hunt to the isolated part of the forest cabin. There Jordan confronts the Huntress face to face. A shocking truth is revealed; Annelise had killed Jordan’s father because he had come close to the truth. Eventually Annelise is captured and sent to a prison in Europe. She faced multiple charges and is sent on death row. Multiple media outlets start to report the horrifying story. Jordan captures her break as a photographer due to this story.

I enjoyed reading this book. It left a huge mark in my reading career and is the book that I most frequently reread. There is an element to the story that makes the reader yearning to reread. There are always new details to capture and recurring coincidences make a perfect puzzle game. I give this book a 10/10 and would recommend it to anyone within the age 13 and up. There are some references in the story that may be inappropriate for anyone younger. It has a perfect combination of humor, history, action, love and growth. There is not a single element that I can question in this novel.
